Metered dose inhalers (pMDI)
In contrast to "classic" drugs, such as a tablet or syrup, (p)MDIs still require the drug to be tested in combination with its application device. This requirement routs in the fact, that only the combination of the drug product and the application device produces the desired concentration of the of the active in the pharmacological relevant fine particle fraction. The determination of both parameters, APSD and DD, is therefore of paramount importance to evaluate the performance of the drug-applicator system.
